I came across a blog post about Ami Suma in Apartment Therapy’s nursery edition called, Ohdeedoh. If you’re a new mom, a soon-to be mom, or a dad for that matter, it’s a great resource for all things related to kids and home. Ami Suma is a Japanese artist who creates amazingly imaginative artwork for children’s rooms. She actually comes to your home for an initial consultation and discusses your ideas for the room. About a week later you’ll have sketches sent to you via email and finally a finished, original mural in your child’s room.
Her work reminds me of the films by Japanese director, Hayao Miyazaki, like Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away, as well as the contemporary Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami.
The only downfall is that she lives in New York and that you can’t take the work with you when you move. Perhaps you can pay extra for the smaller version!
See more of Ami’s work on her site here.
